Our Story

It all started in the summer of 2011 when Jamie & Pia fell in love at a string quartet festival in Reykjavik. They both studied together at the University of Michigan, but never really had a chance to get to know one another. Once they did, things progressed quickly. Ever since that summer, they have been inseparable… Until, that is, they were forcibly separated by international law.

Following Pia's graduation, she was forced to move back to the Netherlands for two years as a stipulation of the Fulbright Fellowship she had received when she originally came to Michigan for her masters degree. Jamie, on the other hand, was left on his own in the U.S. building his career while trying to maintain a semblance of the life he and Pia had together.

Already one year into the process, Jamie and Pia are still committed to one another as they begin a whole new chapter in their journey: getting married.

This blog is a chronicle of their journey as Jamie and Pia reflect on life together and apart.

  1. Jamie & Pia,

“May the music never stop I hear it every day” – a line from one of our favorite songs.

We are so happy for you both! What a wonderful time and way to celebrate your love for each other.

Our families will now have more memories and good times to share.

Jamie, remember the hockey bag & I still have a framed poster in my office of you playing the cello while you were still in college.

Pia my memories of meeting are so special. I know my sister Diane is so very happy. You are beautiful and caring with a heart of gold.

I would love to meet your special family one day as I am sure all of us would. Both your spirits are very uplifting to us all.

Congratulations on your special day of love & celebration!

With much love & congratulations for a wonderful life together.

    Liefde & oprechte beste wensen,

    Debbie & Stuart Becher
